Battle: New York, Day 2

So we have an official title for the movie previously titled "Day 2".

Battle: New York, Day 2

David Ian Lee came in and did the voiceover (in the first person) for the new North American trailer:

That is SWEET!!!!! Who cut it? Couldn't have been the distributor, it didn't have stock footage in it.

We replaced the stock footage with actual visual effects from the finished movie! Who'd a-thunk it? ;-)
Plus I used some other shots and changed the music and colored things differently.

The trailer looks great!

Is Day 2 the one that you shot with the unhacked GH1? If it is, how did it hold up on the big screen?

I'm thinking of going with a GH1, despite the lack of native 24p, because doing so would add about $500 to my paltry budget.

Day 2 was... unhacked, yes. We used NeoScene to make 24p ProRes Quicktimes.
I like the GH1. The autofocus is usable in movie mode -- and when you're doing a lot of handheld that can really make a difference.
The resolution is fine on a large screen, I think the compression issues are mostly when you're color correcting.
And if you hack a GH1 it will cruise along at 30MB/s which is substantially less smashed compression-wise.

Thanks for the info. With a little finagling, I can get a new GH1 body, which would be unhackable, for around $300. Just trying to decide whether to go with it or scrimp in other areas and get a GH2. Damn budget constraints.

Oh man, the new GH1's are unhackable? Crimea!
The big difference for me between the GH1 and the GH2 is that you can presumably take stills while shooting video.
But in any case your camera is just not the picture-quality bottleneck. Lighting, performances, and dear Lord production sound are where anyone's problems are. ;-)

Yep, Panasonic updated the firmware.

And as far as the real bottlenecks, that's why I'm leaning heavily toward the GH1, so I can spend more on other areas. And shooting in Alabama, finding actors who are serious is probably the toughest.

In Birmingham? Just ask Chance for recommendations!

I'm 2 hrs north of there, but I'll be turning to B'ham and Nashville if I can't find enough good ones here in Huntsville. I'll definitely give Chance a shout if that's the case.

It looks flipping sweet.
Thomas, a $300 GH1 sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I purchased a T2i rather then a 7D or 5D and haven't a single regret. Well not true, I wish I had spent my saved money more wisely Ha!
